Thanks for providing a good hint to solve this problem! The
chown root
wasn’t necessary for me, though – deleting the license file in
~/.rdesktop
and then revoking write permissions for myself (
chmod 555 ~/.rdesktop
) worked just fine. Another option would be to remove the directory altogether and create a file with the same name instead (
touch ~/.rdesktop
).

Both ways will trigger error messages (“
/home/user/.rdesktop/licence.hostname.new: Permission denied
” or “
/home/user/.rdesktop/licence.hostname.new: Not a directory
”), but those are apparently harmless: rdesktop still functions properly.

FTR: I’m using rdesktop 1.6.0, and I’m trying to connect to a Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise. The same problem does not occur with an old Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise.

Have you tried running

jockey-text --list

This should probably list available drivers for your system. If you have an Nvidia card and jockey-text does not detect it, there might be some problems detecting your card properly.

Hey -
I did actually hit an error on jockey-text -e xorg:nvidia_current
I had returned:

Unknown driver: xorg:nvidia_current
Use --list to see available drivers

Any advice appreciated!

Takk for guiden.

Oppgradering funket faktisk overraskende bra. Bootet fra XBMCbuntu-CD og valgte installer, og oppgrader ubuntu. Nesten alle innstillinger ble beholdt. Trengte bare å sette fast ip og dns, så var alt oppe og gikk. Mediebiblioteket var på plass som før.

Hi Teymoor,

vtable errors are sometimes tricky to figure out. I would double check the following:
1. All methods in your classes are both defined in the headers (.h) and the source files (.cpp)
2. All methods have matching parameters
3. The number of methods are the same
4. If you have inherited classes, make sure that all virtual functions are implemented (this shouldn't lead to vtable errors, but is worth checking)
5. Check that all used libraries are included and check that you are also linking their dependencies.
6. Try to compile your project with only a few test files, but link and use the libraries you need. A vtable error could mean that a library that is referenced is missing some of its dependencies or that these dependencies are not linked properly.
7. Start from the bottom and build up everything again piece by piece, if possible. This way you can try find the problem in your code.

If you can't figure it out, see if you can create a simple example that reproduces the error and post it here. Maybe I or someone else that stumbles over this post knows what to do.

Good luck!

Hi Svenn,

Nice of you for sharing your knowlage!
But your tips didn't help in my case.
I get the error message “undefined reference to `vtable for …”
although the .h and .cpp files are synchronized and checked.
I've also cleaned the environment.
Have you any other tips?

I think Chromium accepts the command line option -start-maximized which might help you out. If it is still larger than your screen it might be because of oversampling. Is it a TV-screen? Reducing oversampling is usually done through the TV's own menus or perhaps in the display settings in XFCE.

Hi,
Thanks for the tip. Mine seems to work fine but Chromium is still about an inch larger than my screen. Any ideas?

Thanks to you too. I don't know if I'd thought OpenBox was the problem if I hadn't seen your post. I tried adding a comment on your post by the way, but it seems it got lost somehow. Maybe OpenID and Blogger don't play too well together after all...

Anyways, keep up the good work! I'm impressed at the amount of guides you have made available.
